Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotram

Understanding the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva

In Sanatana Dharma, a **Jyotirlinga** ("Pillar of Radiant Light") represents the supreme, infinite, unmanifested form of Lord Shiva. According to Shiva Purana, when Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu argued over creation supremacy, Lord Shiva pierced the three worlds as an endless pillar of cosmic fire (*Jyotirlinga*).

Lord Shiva self-manifested (*Swayambhu*) at 12 holy spots across India to grant liberation to humanity. Visiting all 12 Jyotirlingas or reciting Adi Shankaracharya's *Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotram* during the holy month of Shravan absolves sins accumulated over seven lifetimes.
