Understanding Kashi Vishwanath in Shravan

Kashi (Varanasi), revered as Avimukta Kshetra — the land never forsaken by Lord Shiva — is the spiritual heartbeat of Sanatana Dharma. At its center stands Shri Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga, the 7th among the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

During the holy month of Shravan (July 29 to August 28, 2026), Varanasi turns into a roaring sea of saffron-clad devotees (*Kanwariyas* and *Shiv Bhakts*). Millions carry Uttarvahini Ganges water from Dashashwamedh Ghat to perform Jalabhishek on the sacred Jyotirlinga.

Kashi on Shiva's Trishul & Sacred Reconstructions

According to the Kashi Khanda of Skanda Purana, Varanasi is not supported by the earth, but rests on the three prongs of Lord Shiva's divine Trishul (Trident).

1. Avimukta Kshetra

Lord Shiva declared Kashi as His permanent residence (*Avimukta*), promising salvation (*Moksha*) to any soul who breathes their last in this holy city.

2. Queen Ahilyabai Holkar

In 1777 CE, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore rebuilt the present stone temple after centuries of medieval destructions, resurrecting the Jyotirlinga shrine.

3. Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Gold

In 1835 CE, Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab donated 1,000 kg of pure gold to plate the twin spires and dome of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

The Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor

Inaugurated in December 2021, the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor expanded the temple complex from a congested 3,000 square feet alley to a breathtaking 5 lakh square feet riverfront plaza connecting Manikarnika and Lalita Ghats directly to the main sanctum.

🏛️ Ganga View Gallery

Pilgrims can take holy dip in Ganges at Lalita Ghat and walk straight into temple complex through marble pathways.

🏛️ Mumukshu Bhawan

Special sanctuary facility providing care and shelter for elderly devotees seeking final liberation in Kashi.

🏛️ Virtual Museum & Library

Immersive digital galleries detailing ancient Sanatana Vedic literature and history of Kashi Khanda.
