Archaeological Excavations in Bihar
- Kumhrar (Patna): Excavations here unearth the remains of the legendary 80-pillared hall of the Mauryan parliament. The massive sandstone pillars, carved out of Chunar stone quarries, feature a glass-like polish characteristic of Mauryan craftsmanship.
- Chirand (Saran): Holds the distinction of being the first neolithic site excavated in the middle Gangetic plain, revealing sophisticated bone and stone tools.
- Antichak (Bhagalpur): The site of Vikramashila Mahavihara, featuring a colossal double-tiered stupa with beautiful terracotta plaques depicting Buddhist motifs, animals, and daily life.
- Taradih (Bodh Gaya): Located right next to the Mahabodhi Temple, excavations have revealed a continuous cultural sequence from the Neolithic-Chalcolithic periods to the late medieval era.
