Visa-Free Policy for Indian Citizens
In an effort to bolster tourism ties with its closest neighbour, the Government of Sri Lanka established a visa fee waiver granting free 30-day tourist entry to Indian passport holders. While the visa fee is waived (0 USD), travellers must still submit an online Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before boarding their flight.
Step-by-Step Online ETA Application
- Visit the official Government of Sri Lanka ETA portal (eta.gov.lk). Beware of third-party fraudulent copycat websites.
- Select 'Apply for an Individual' under Tourist ETA.
- Enter personal details exactly as they appear in your passport: Full Name, Passport Number, Nationality (Indian), Date of Birth, and Gender.
- Enter your intended arrival date and initial hotel address in Sri Lanka.
- Submit application. For Indian passport holders, the checkout fee will calculate as $0.00 USD.
- Receive the official ETA approval letter via email within 24–48 hours, print it out, and present it at airline check-in.
Required Documents at Port of Entry
- Valid Indian Passport with at least 6 months validity from entry date.
- Confirmed return flight ticket to India or onward destination.
- Proof of sufficient financial funds for your stay.
- Completed online Sri Lanka Digital Arrival Card (submitted within 3 days prior to arrival).
