Angkor Pass Buying Strategy
All foreign visitors must possess an official Angkor Pass issued by Angkor Enterprise. The 1-Day pass ($37 USD) is valid for 1 day; the 3-Day pass ($62 USD) is valid for any 3 days within a 10-day period; and the 7-Day pass ($72 USD) is valid for any 7 days within a month. Passes can be purchased online before your trip or at the central Angkor Ticket Centre in Siem Reap (open 4:30 AM to 5:30 PM).
The Two Classic Circuits
- The Small Circuit (17 km): Covers the marquee core: Angkor Wat → South Gate of Angkor Thom → Bayon → Baphuon → Terrace of Elephants → Chau Say Tevoda → Ta Keo → Ta Prohm → Banteay Kdei → Srah Srang lake. Best done over Day 1.
- The Grand Circuit (26 km): Extends into the surrounding countryside: Preah Khan (monastery temple) → Neak Pean (island healing sanctuary) → Ta Som → East Mebon → Pre Rup (brick mountain temple ideal for sunset). Best for Day 2.
Hiring a Tuk-Tuk (Remork)
The best and most comfortable way to tour Angkor is hiring a traditional Cambodian Remork (a motorcycle trailer fitted with comfortable cushioned seats and sun canopy). Standard daily rates range between $18 and $25 USD for the Small/Grand circuit, including bottled water between temple stops.
