Chapter I — Monument to Courage
The Memorial of the Fire and Fury Corps
The **Hall of Fame** is an imposing, two-storey military museum and war memorial constructed and maintained with consummate pride by the **14 Corps (Fire and Fury Corps)** of the Indian Army. Situated approximately 4 kilometres from the Leh main market along the Leh-Kargil highway, just past the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, the museum stands as a monumental tribute to the courage, valor, and supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers who have defended the frontiers of Ladakh.
Spanning the Indo-Pakistani wars of 1947–48, 1965, 1971, the 1999 Kargil conflict, and ongoing high-altitude border security, the Hall of Fame provides an unforgettable, educational, and deeply moving experience for travelers visiting the Union Territory.
Chapter II — Siachen Glacier Exhibition
Life at the World's Highest and Coldest Battlefield
The ground floor features the world-renowned **Siachen Glacier Gallery**, detailing the staggering physical and mental realities of **Operation Meghdoot** (launched in 1984 to secure the 76-kilometre-long glacier). Here, visitors gain profound insight into how Indian troops survive at altitudes between 18,000 and 22,000 feet, where temperatures plunge to -50°C and blizzards blow at 100 km/h.
On display is specialized extreme cold weather gear: multi-layered sub-zero parkas, oxygen-dispensing masks, snowshoes, crevasse-rescue sledges (*akja*), and customized lightweight rations. Interactive exhibits illustrate the biological impact of extreme cold, frostbite, pulmonary edema, and the heroic helicopter pilots of the Army Aviation Corps who fly Cheetah helicopters to the highest helipads on Earth to evacuate casualties.
Chapter III — Kargil Gallery & Cultural Wing
Warfare Artifacts, Letters, and Ladakhi Heritage
The upper floor houses the **OP Vijay Gallery**, showcasing captured enemy arms, ammunition, tactical radios, and uniforms from the 1999 conflict, alongside moving archival photographs and citations of Param Vir Chakra recipients. In one quiet corner, visitors can read the framed, deeply touching final letters written home by soldiers hours before ascending enemy-held peaks.
In addition to military exhibits, the Hall of Fame features an exceptional **Ladakh Cultural Gallery**. On display are authentic traditional Ladakhi costumes, queenly turquoise peraks, wooden farming implements, antique cooking vessels, and photographic documentation of Ladakhi wildlife (including snow leopards, kiangs, and black-necked cranes), celebrating the rich socio-cultural heritage the Indian Armed Forces are sworn to protect.
