Attire
Paharia Hill Attire & Santhal Plains Dress
The hill-dwelling Sauria Paharia women wear short, dark cotton wraps with elaborate beaded necklaces and nose rings, while the plains-dwelling Santhal women wear white sarees with red borders and mahua flower ornaments — two distinct dress codes coexisting within a single district.
Diversity
Mughal Heritage Meets Tribal Roots
Rajmahal town was once the capital of Bengal under Mughal governors. Today, the district's culture is a unique blend — elegant Mughal-era stone architecture exists alongside Santhal mud-art homes, and the town's markets serve both Bengali fish curries and tribal handia rice beer.
