What Is This Pilgrimage?

Situated along the tranquil banks of the sacred Godavari River in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib in Nanded is one of the Five Takhts (Panj Takht) of Sikhism and one of the most spiritually charged sanctums on earth. It was here that the tenth master, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, camped in 1708, held court with emperor Bahadur Shah I, and breathed his final earthly breath.

Before his departure from the physical world on 7 October 1708, Guru Gobind Singh gathered his followers, bowed before the sacred scripture (Adi Granth), and declared an end to human Guruship with the eternal commandment: 'Agya Bhai Akal Ki, Tabhi Chalayo Panth, Sab Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai, Guru Manyo Granth' ('By the mandate of the Timeless Lord, the Panth was established; all Sikhs are commanded to accept the Granth as their Guru').
